Ganga Aditya

He is worshiped as the Sun God who presides over the secret waters, especially in the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi), where Sun and Ganga together form a powerful combination of fire and water, energy and purity.
• “Ganga” refers to the sacred river of Gunga (Ganges) -considered the most purifying river in Hinduism.
• “Aditya” is one of the twelve names for the Sun God (Surya Dev).
• Ganga Aditya thus represents the purifying light of the sun shining on the holy river, bringing both physical and spiritual cleansing.
